All diamonds are supplied with an official certificate from the most important independent diamond laboratories, namely IGI (International Gemmocological Institute), HRD (Diamond High Council), GIA (Gemmocological Institute of America). The 4 C’s

The different properties of diamonds are assessed and classified by the diamond industry. To learn more about diamonds, you first have to learn more about the “4 C’s” of diamonds, these are the most important categories and gradations.

Carat

The weight of gemstones is expressed in carat (1 carat = 0.2 gram). The carat is divided into 100 points and is always expressed in two decimals, for example 0.24 carat or 24 point.

Clarity

The purity of cut diamonds. The stone can have both internal and external characteristics. The interior often consists of glands (internal cracks), residues of carbon that are not fully crystallized or inclusions of nitrogen. They come in all kinds of forms but also in various degrees of intensity. They are groove lines that show the structure of the rough stone. There are also external features such as “beard”, which remains when the stone is cut too hard, and “nijf” that remains when the stone is onlt slightly cut

Color

The way a color diamond is judged is rather subjective. A pure diamond is colorless. Usually therefore applies; the less color, the purer, the more valuable. Certain relatively common discoloration, such as yellow, causes the value of the diamond to fall.
The color is determined based on a set of so-called calibration stones (the so-called masterstones). This is a collection of stones with different colors in the highest grades, which are considered as standards by several prominent diamond dealers

Cut

This is understood as the fabric of the stone. The shape in which the stone is cut is part of it. The fabric relates to the quality of the grinding and the proportions of the cut. The essence lies in the right “proportions” and the “refinement” of the cut stone. The proportions refer to the height of the crown, the crown angle, the depth of the pavilion side, the table reflection and the ratio of the roundness to the total depth of the stone.

The refinement relates to the precise finishing of the total fabric. How regular is the roundness, is the body heavy or light, are there differences in symmetry between the crown and the pavilion side, are the facets right to each other, is the clay exactly in the middle or is the table decentralized?

All these things directly affect the play of light in the stone
